The Watershed Explorers Program runs throughout the week starting at 9:00 am, and lasts between 2 to 4 hours (location dependent). Check the calendar below for available dates for the site(s) you would like to visit. Once you have chosen your date(s), click the button below to register.

***Please note - you must register at least 30 days in advance of your requested dates to allow for program staffing and preparation!

Can’t find a date/time that fits your schedule? We may be able to modify the program to fit your needs. Please contact the Program Administrator directly with any scheduling questions or special requests.

FIELD TRIP GUIDELINES


Permission Slips

Students must submit a completed permission slip signed by their parent/guardian prior to the field site visits.

English / Español

Please submit completed & signed permission slips in advance via email or bring hard copies for program staff at the start of the field trip.


What to Wear/Bring

In preparation of the field trip, students should:

• Wear comfortable, closed-toe walking shoes (no flip-flops)

• Wear layered clothing to accommodate varying temperatures

• Bring sun protection (e.g., sunscreen, sunglasses, and hat)

• Bring a lunch, snacks and water each day


Student Expectations

For the safety of students, and the enjoyment of others, we ask all students to:

• Stay on designated trails unless otherwise directed by program staff

• Refrain from picking up or taking any plants, animals or artifacts

• Carry out any trash or other items carried in

• Be respectful and follow the directions of program staff and volunteers

• Listen and actively participate in site activities


Transportation

Two passenger vans are available to transport up to 26 students each day. Thanks to generous donations from our program donors/funders, these vans are offered free of charge to program participants. Please indicate on the registration form if you are requesting use of these vans.

If you do not need to use the vans, or would prefer to provide your own transportation, please allow for an appropriate amount of drive time to arrive at each site by 9:00am. Addresses and directions to each site are provided below.


Cancellation Policy

Please contact the Program Administrator as soon as possible, but no later than 24 hours prior, if your program needs to be cancelled or rescheduled. Arrangements will be made to reschedule your program in the event of rain.

Volcan Mountain
Address: 22850 Volcan Rd, Julian, CA 92036

Directions from I-15: Exit Scripps Poway Rd, head east on Scripps Poway Rd, turn left on SR-67 (turns into SR-78), turn left on Wynola Rd, turn left on Farmer Rd and continue north to the gated entry to Volcan Rd.

Lake Sutherland
Address: 22600 Sutherland Dam Rd, Ramona, CA 92065

Directions from I-15: Exit Scripps Poway Rd, head east on Scripps Poway Rd, turn left on SR-67 (turns into SR-78), turn left on Sutherland Dam Rd, and continue to the reservoir entrance.

San Diego Archaeological Center
Address: 16666 San Pasqual Valley Rd, Escondido, CA 92027

Directions from I-15: Exit Via Rancho Pkwy exit, head east on Via Rancho Pkwy, continue onto Bear Valley Pkwy, turn right onto San Pasqual Rd, turn right onto Old Milky Way, take a slight right onto San Pasqual Valley Rd, and continue to the San Diego Archaeological Center entrance.

Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead
Address: 12655 Sunset Dr, Escondido, CA 92025

Directions from I-15: Exit Via Rancho Parkway, head east on Via Rancho Pkwy, turn right onto Sunset Dr, and turn left into the Sikes Adobe Staging Area.

San Dieguito Lagoon
Address: San Andres Dr, Del Mar, CA 92014

Directions from I-5: Exit Via de la Valle, head east on Via de la Valle, turn right on San Andres Dr, turn left into the San Dieguito Lagoon Staging Area.
